Waxing is a method where hair is removed at the root rather than at the surface like with technique such as depilatory. Results can therefore last for two to eight weeks. Procedure is done by spreading wax thinly over the skin.
A paper strip or cloth is then used to remove wax along with hair by pressing it on the top and ripping it off with a sudden movement against the direction of hair growth.
Types of Waxing
Numerous types of waxing are available. Following are the types ordered by part of the body that is waxed: leg waxing, foot waxing, arm pit waxing, eyebrow waxing, back waxing, chest waxing, bikini waxing and waxing of the entire body.
Some parts should never be waxed due to sensitive skin that can be severely damaged if waxed. Those are: eyelashes, eyelids, the palms of the hands, the soles of the feet as well inside the nose and ears.
Pros and Cons of Waxing
Pros: Wax removes hair on the beginning of the growth, procedure therefore needs to be repeated only twice a month. It is an effective method to remove large amounts of hair at one time. Results can last for two to eight weeks. You can achieve pretty much the same results at salon or at home. Just a little routine is necessary for quick pulls.
Cons: One of the drawbacks are costs. Waxing costs can be as high as several hundred dollars depending on the area of hair removed and number of sessions.
Procedure is quite painful with strong hair. Because we may also remove top layer of the skin, we should know, that hardly gained summer tanned skin may also be gone.
Avoid this procedure three days before and three days after menstrual period. Organism is holding in water during that time and thus makes skin more sensitive. Waxing after all is not permanent.
Waxing Tips
At cosmetician be careful that she works with a fresh wax and not with used one. Before waxing skin needs to be completely dry, therefore use tonic beforehand if necessary.
